Wei jing tang treats cough with mild fever, vexing fullness, scaly skin on the chest, for this is lung abscess.

Wei jing tang was added later to the Shang Han Lun. It first appeared in the book a thousand ducat formulas, from Sun Simiao.

Wei jing is phragmites stem and is often substituted with lugen phragmites root.

Lu gen, Phragmitis rhizoma is sweet tonifying and cooling of the lung. It cools heat in the qi layer, lung and stomach, it clears heat on the surface while nourishing yin. It also clears toxic heat in the lungs as in abscess.

Cold and sweet it clears lung heat and soothes the throat. It also clears toxic heat in the lungs as in abscess.

Yi yi ren, Coicis semen is sweet tonifying, moving and cooling of excess warm fluids in the stomach domain, spleen, kidneys, and bladder.

Transforms hot dampness and phlegm while disinhibiting urination and dispelling pus.

Dong gua ren, Benincasae semen is a replacement for the original sweet melon seed tian gua ren. Sweet and cool it transforms hot dampness and phlegm in all hollow organs while disinhibiting urination and dispelling pus.

Tao ren, Persicae semen is bitter draining and descending of the stomach domain. It is pungent moving and breaking of liver blood and the ministerial fire in the san jiao.

Moves the blood, descends Metal and flushes out static local heat.

Tao ren and dong gua ren is a classical combination to counter and to clear pus from the body of either the lungs or large intestine as in da huang mu dan pi tang.
