In the qi layer, with denseness under the heart the size of a dish, and edges like an overturned cup, it is the product of water rheum, and gui zhi qu jia ma huang fu zi xi xin tang governs.

The qi layer is the stomach and lungs in four levels terms or in six division terms the yang ming and tai yin. It treats an accumulation of cold water in the yang ming stomach.

It is the combination of gui zhi qu shao yang tang and ma huang xi xin fu zi tang. The bai shao has been removed from the gui zhi tang because bai shao nourishes yin and there is an accumulation of fluids. Bai shao also calms the dispersing of the warm pungent herbs. The dose of gui zhi is now higher to tonify heart yang so it can once again descend.

Why the ma huang? This is not a surface pattern but water is not descending so using ma huang will open the lungs so water can descend. Fu zi and xi xin will warm the interior to move the stuck water.

Gui zhi, Cinnamomi cassiae ramulus is pungent sweet and warm dispersing of the imperial and ministerial fire. It warms and tonifies the shao yin and jue yin. In doing so it warms and tonifies the whole body.

Gui zhi is the main herb to restore the water metabolism of the tai yang fu organ. It warms the yang on the bladder channel and promotes the transformation of kidney qi as vapor from the stored fluids of the bladder.

Sheng jiang, Zingiberis rhizoma recens

Sheng jiang is pungent dispersing of the liver and pericardium blood and the ministerial fire in the san jiao. Sheng jiang is pungent dispersing of dampness and cold in the stomach domain, spleen and lung. Sheng jiang is pungent connecting of the tai yin with the tai yang. It supports raising of the clear qi to the chest and the 100 vessels.

Sheng jiang is pungent warm dispersing and is supporting gui zhi in warming the interior and surface.

Sheng jiang is pungent dispersing of dampness and cold in the stomach domain, spleen and lung.

Da zao, Jujubae fructus is sweet tonifying and moderating. It tonifies and nourishes the stomach domain, spleen, lungs, and heart. It directly nourishes the shao yin heart.

Gui zhi, da zao and zhi gan cao tonify and nourish the heart. Da zao and zhi gan cao calm the excessive movement of Wood wind so the dose has been lowered

Zhi gan cao, Glycyrrhizae radix prep is sweet tonifying and nourishing of all organs but especially the heart.

Zhi gan cao is sweet and mildly warm tonifying and nourishing of yin fluids. It nourishes yin fluids in the tai yin and shao yin. Gui zhi and zhi gan cao together tonify heart yang to support the transformation of cold fluids.

Ma huang, Ephedrae herba is bitter descending of the lung. It is pungent dispersing of the imperial and ministerial fire. It enters the lung and bladder channel, it opens the surface, and dispels the cold on the surface. Further it dissipates lung qi and pacifies panting through opening the closed lung qi.

It opens the pores of the surface that were closed by external cold and promotes the excretion of stagnant fluids by promoting the dispersion of tai yang.

Fu zi, Aconiti radix lateralis praeparata is pungent dispersing of liver blood and the ministerial fire in the san jiao. It is pungent dispersing of the heart and kidneys. It is pungent dispersing of the tai yang channels. It is pungent dispersing of excess water.

Fu zi warms the yang of the shao yin heart and kidney to eliminate internal cold.  It can assist ma huang in dispersing the surface without damaging the yang qi while warming shao yin

It warms the original qi of the kidneys and the gathering qi of the lungs and heart. Fu zi infuses the body with fire and promotes water metabolism through the descent of fire into the water reservoirs of the body to draw qi from the body. The combination of fu zi and gui zhi is the strongest in promoting water metabolism by warming cold fluids. 

Xi xin, Asari herba is pungent dispersing of the liver blood and the ministerial fire. It is pungent dispersing of the heart, kidneys and lungs. It is pungent dispersing of the tai yang channel.

Disperses the surface of cold and frees qi by opening the channels. Combined with fu zi it treats internal cold.

Warms the interior and especially tai yin and shao yin.
